Trust Your Wings, Not the Branch
Building strength, confidence and resilience from the inside out.
"A bird sitting on a tree isn't brave because it trusts the branch not to break; it's brave because it trusts its own ability to fly. Too often, we exhaust ourselves trying to make our jobs, relationships, and external plans perfectly secure. But life will always shift. True security doesn't come from finding a branch that will never snap; it comes from building the inner resilience to handle the fall. Stop waiting for a perfect guarantee. Trust your skills, adapt, and trust your wings." I love this quote and it aligns with me so much
This year, my biggest goal hasn't been physical transformation. It's been prioritising my mental health, finding my balance and learning to show up for myself again (and my dogs, of course).
I've realised that sometimes, before we can move forward physically, we need to look after ourselves mentally.
5 Things I've Done to Find My Way Back
1. Finding my calm: I started sound healing to reconnect with myself and help me get back into the gym. Now Im back to loving the gym, running, walking and sitting outside enjoying life go by
2. Nourishing my body: I saw a nutritionist and introduced a daily smoothie, a banana, 3L water and supplements tailored to my needs. 6 months on, I still do these little things and have become part of who I am
3. Prioritising mental health: Therapy every two weeks, journaling, returning to old hobbies and spending time with my dogs have become important parts of my routine. Getting back to my self again
4. Setting smaller goals: Big goals can feel overwhelming, so I've started breaking them into manageable micro goals. I'm finally ticking them off and building momentum. Small goals! Like spend 15 mins doing the weeding!
5. Showing up: I committed to CrossFit to keep myself accountable and started training with my weightlifting coach. Slowly, things started moving in the right direction, and showing up became easier. Now, I'm finding my flow again and has become part of who I am again
What I've Learned
Your health and fitness journey is about more than physical results. It's about building confidence, resilience and a healthier relationship with yourself.
You don't need to change everything overnight. Start small, celebrate your progress and remember that rest, support and consistency all matter.
Somewhere along the journey, don't forget to turn around and enjoy the view.
You don't discover strength at the end — you build it quietly along the way.
Trust your wings, not the branch. Believe in the strength you're building, celebrate the small wins and keep showing up for yourself.
On my left hand I have a scar about 8cm long that I burnt on some caramel in the kitchen at my first job in perth! It got infected and was incredibly painful. Like a true trooper, I didnt make a scene, ripped the boiling sugar off my hand and suffered the unbearable pain in silence, and still have the scar today to remind me that, it’s actually okay to ask for help! Im very sure with medical attention that scar wouldn’t even be half as bad!
I want to get the quote - “Trust your wings, not the branch” tattooed on my right hand in the same place. Its a reminder for me that you can do hard things and it symbolises to me something so important and that is - like a bird who learns to fly, he has to trust in his own wings and he flies away. He doesn’t trust in the branch below, simply has faith in his own abilities and his own wings to show him the way. Trust YOUR Wings, Not the Branch
